Ένα ζεστό πρωινό του Ιουνίου κάναμε short break από τη δουλειά, με μέσο τα ηλεκτρικά μας ποδήλατα και πατίνια, στην περιοχή κάτω από την Καμάρα και απολαύσαμε την καλοκαιρινή ραστώνη σε πεζόδρομους, για να απομονωθούμε από τους θορύβους της πόλης,
παρόλο που ήμασταν τόσο κοντά τους.
On a warm June morning, we took a short break from work, using our electric bikes and scooters as our means of exploration, and enjoyed the summer vibes around Kamara.
We chose quiet pedestrian streets where we could escape the city noise, even though we were still just a few steps away from its lively heart.
Στάση πρώτη: Γιάφκα βιβλιοπωλείο-καφέ | Giafka bookstore-cafe
Η αρχή έγινε με καφεδάκι στον πεζόδρομο της Δέλλιου, με την παχιά σκιά, όπου παραγγείλαμε τους κρύους μας καφέδες στο πιο old time classic στέκι του δρόμου, τη Γιάφκα, ένα από τα λίγα βιβλιοπωλεία-καφέ της πόλης.
Στην παρούσα ανασκόπηση, εκ παραδρομής δεν πατήσαμε το rec στο Strava, οπότε δεν μπορούμε να μοιραστούμε μαζί σας τα δεδομένα της σουλάτσας. Η πρόσβαση, όμως, στον πεζόδρομο ήταν εύκολη από τον παραλιακό ποδηλατόδρομο και στη συνέχεια από τον ποδηλατόδρομο που εκτείνεται από το Πάρκο Ξαρχάκου έως τον ποδηλατόδρομο της Αγγελάκη.
Στρίψαμε στη Σβώλου και στην πρώτη διασταύρωση με την Εθνικής Αμύνης συναντήσαμε τον πεζόδρομο της Δέλλιου. Αφήσαμε τα μικρά-οχήματά μας δίπλα, έχοντας την εποπτεία τους, και αράξαμε στον εξωτερικό χώρο για χαλαρή κουβεντούλα.
Ευγενικό service, προσιτές τιμές και σίγουρα, σε περιόδους πλήρους δραστηριότητας, ο χώρος είναι φουλ δραστήριος, αφού διοργανώνει διάφορες εκδηλώσεις γύρω από το βιβλίο.
Μετά την πολιτιστική κουλτούρα μας άνοιξε η όρεξη!
We started our ride with a coffee stop at Ioanni Delliou pedestrian street, under the thick shade of the trees, where we ordered our iced coffees at one of the most old-time classic spots of the area: Giafka.
Giafka is one of the few bookstore-cafés in Thessaloniki, combining a love for books, culture and relaxed urban moments.
Unfortunately, during this Soulatsa Day review, we forgot to press the record button on Strava, so we cannot share the exact data of our little ride. However, reaching the pedestrian street was easy, starting from the seaside cycling lane and then following the cycling route that connects Xarchakos Park with Angelaki Street.
We turned onto Svolou Street and, at the first intersection with Ethnikis Aminis Street, we discovered Delliou pedestrian street.
We parked our small vehicles nearby, keeping an eye on them, and enjoyed some relaxed conversation at the outdoor seating area.
Friendly service, affordable prices and a truly welcoming atmosphere. During busier periods, the place becomes a lively cultural spot, hosting different events related to books and literature.
After this cultural recharge, our appetite started calling!
Στάση Δεύτερη: Oβελός ψητοπωλείον | Ovelos grill house
Καθώς γουργούριζε το στομάχι μας και φώναζε για «τσιτσί», μεταβήκαμε κοντά σε μία από τις κρυφές γωνιές απέναντι από την Καμάρα.
Στο ακίνητο που στέγαζε για χρόνια την ταβέρνα «Τα Κουμπαράκια», ακριβώς πίσω από τον Ιερό Ναό Μεταμορφώσεως του Σωτήρος επί της Εγνατίας, πλέον δεσπόζει το ψητοπωλείο «Οβελός».
Με διάφορα κρεατικά και σούβλες, προτείνεται για short lunch break σαρκοφαγικό.
Τσιμπήσαμε μπιφτεκάκια και κοντοσούβλι χοιρινό και μας άρεσε ιδιαίτερα ότι ουσιαστικά μπορείς να απομονωθείς, ενώ βρίσκεσαι κοντά σε ένα από τα πιο πολυσύχναστα σημεία της πόλης.
Αφήσαμε δίπλα μας τα μικρο-οχήματα για να τα εποπτεύουμε και αράξαμε στα εξωτερικά τραπεζάκια, που δημιουργούν σαν αδιέξοδο πίσω από τον ναό.
Στην επόμενη επίσκεψή μας σίγουρα θα δοκιμάσουμε και τα σάντουιτς με κρέας, καθώς φαίνονταν άκρως χορταστικά και νόστιμα, ενώ τα τιμούσε ιδιαίτερα η φοιτητιώσα νεολαία του μαγαζιού.
Αυτό ήταν το summer break μας. Και μετά… back to lab φορτισμένοι!
With our stomachs starting to growl and asking for some “tsitsi” (Greek slang for meat), we headed towards one of the hidden corners opposite Kamara.
Located in the building that for many years hosted the traditional tavern “Ta Koumbarakia”, right behind the Metamorfosis tou Sotiros church on Egnatia Street, you will now find Ovelos Grill House.
With a variety of grilled meats and traditional skewers, it is a great choice for a short, meat-lover lunch break.
We tried their small meat patties and pork kontosouvli, and what we especially enjoyed was the feeling of being able to disconnect, while actually being next to one of the busiest spots in the city.
We left our small vehicles next to us so we could keep an eye on them and relaxed at the outdoor tables, in a quiet corner that feels almost hidden behind the church.
Next time, we will definitely try their meat sandwiches as well, as they looked extremely satisfying and delicious , something also appreciated by the student crowd that clearly loves this place.
This was our summer break… and then it was back to the lab, recharged and inspired!
